This excursion on Etna starts from the Citelli Refuge and winds through a mixed forest of birch and pine trees. Just after the ruins of an ancient sheepfold, the route heads towards the Serracozzo valley.
The 1971 eruption left one of the most beautiful lava cave on Etna at an altitude of 1830 mt above sea level. From the cave begins the uphill path that leads up to the “Serra delle Concazze” crest up to an altitude of 2000 mt s.l.m. Panoramic point where you can admire the spectacular and immense caldera “Valle del Bove”. A place that leave speechless in front of the silent spectacle of this huge valley completely covered with lava.
Once at an altitude of 2200 mt, we will finally get to a small valley full of volcanic ash. Fun downhill to get back to the refuge!
I will estimate the volcano’s weather and geodynamics conditions and consequently I may change the schedule of the route in order to be safe and to get the best profit both in terms of sport hiking and in terms of panorama.
