Our tour starts from the splendid Pancali square, where stands one of the oldest Doric temples in Sicily, the temple of Apollo. From here we enter in the hearth of the ancient city, walking though one of the main arteries of the city at the time of the Greeks and Romans, and from which we can catch a glimpse of the sea that surrounds the island of Ortigia.
We head towards the main square, Piazza Duomo, where the Cathedral dedicated to Santa Lucia will let you speechless; the whole square is a splendid example of that Baroque architecture that has become UNESCO heritage, and the cathedral, with its mix of styles, perfectly represents and tells that succession of rulers and cultures that have made Sicily a special place.
After visiting, on request (small fee to pay), the interior of the cathedral, we will continue the walk going towards the Belvedere overlooking the gulf, and from here to Fonte Aretusa, mythical palace and symbol of an eternal love.
The tour continues through the alleys of the “Giudecca”, the ancient Jewish Quarter rich in history; buildings here have amazing balconies decorated in Baroque style, the lime stone reflects the sun light, creating lovely shades effects.
Last stop at the Diana fountain, before reaching the Temple of Apollo again, where our walk in Siracusa will end.
To complete the experience we’ll make several stops at local producers to taste: dairy products, dried fruits, olive oil and ice cream (only in the morning).
